Hudson Mod Mag
Something really cool happened last Thursday night. One of my good friends invited me to accompany her to her buddy’s magazine launch! What an experience. Hudson Mod threw an incredible party. It took place at Maritime Parc right on the Hudson River. The view was absolutely stunning. I had never been to a launch like this before. In fact I have only been to one book launch ever. Author, Jenny Milchman, invited me to her Ruin Falls book launch, which was held in a book store. She had ribs and wine. There was something cool about having a party amidst shelves of books; I know other authors who have hosted in similar venues or even coffee houses. But this magazine event was what I have envisioned for my baby’s arrival – minus the vendors. The atmosphere was exhilarating. There were stands with samples sponsored by: J&R Cigars, Grey Goose Vodka, Dewars Scotch – even swag bags. A mock red carpet was set up for pictures for the magazine and interviews. Brilliant! I’m stealing that. I’m not sure who was doing the interviewing radio, T.V. or both.
Because of my friend’s connection, we are in shots with one of the owners which may end up in an issue and I am petrified to see my photo. In most of my pics and my friends’ shots, I resemble a beach ball. Having only lost 5-6 pounds of the 25 I have gained I had to race to the mall and try to find something to wear because nothing fits. This dress was not my style with its Aztec print, but having been invited on the cuff I had to buy it anyway and make do. Ugh. I wish I had just worn something I wear to work. It would have been better. I always tell my daughter, “It doesn’t matter what you wear if you wear it with confidence.” Fuck that.
